The Membranology 'Cell Harvester' is a flexible and versatile unit suitable for the concentration of biomass and particulate solids at the large lab or pilot scale. The rig has been constructed using our 25 years of industrial biotech experience and is specifically designed for the separation of yeasts, bacteria, and microalgae. Our filtration platforms have a proven track record in the separation of many typical organisms such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Saccharomyces candida, Pichia pastoris, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Oenococcus oeni, Nannochloropsis, Chlorella, Isochrysis galbana, and Scenedesmus obliquus... to name but a few.

Our filtration platforms have successfully concentrated cellular materials directly from fermentation broths to concentrations up to and over 100 g L-1 dry weight. The processing time is rapid and the operation is simplistic. The equipment is supplied with a full set of operating instructions, care and maintenance advice and the back-up of our full technical support and specialist laboratory services if needed (ask for details).

MFRES-0.5 Filtration Platform

The MFRES-0.5 filtration platform is fully equipped for research and development activities and is perfectly suited for the modern biotech pilot plant. The system can be used for simple concentration of biomass, desalting and diafiltration operations, or membrane testing and evaluation. The rig consists of a large 0.5 m2 membrane area for super-fast filtration times, large volume pump for high cross-flow velocities (minimising polarisation layers and fouling) and an accompaniment of instrumentation suitable to measure transmembrane pressure, temperature and cross-flow velocity. The platform can be supplied with a feed vessel (not shown) and is fitted with tri-clamp connections that are capable of connecting to any laboratory or industrial vessel. The hold-up volume in this system is less than 2L allowing for a very low heel and concentration of broths from as little as 20L. In addition, the platform has a drain line that can be used to pump the final concentrated broth or vessel contents to the next downstream unit operation. This filtration platform is the complete package and retails for £8,500 (contact us for specific quotation).

If the MFRES-0.5 is not what you are looking for then we can customise the unit specifically for a client. For example, we can supply a simplified filtration unit that is similar in design but with minimal instrumentation (MFBASIC-0.25) at a much lower cost or we can supply a fully automated unit with digital instrumentation and data-logging capability (MFADV-0.5) for an increased cost.
